"My Ms. Millie"
This page is dedicated to my oldest sister... Mildred Delores Wilson Bares. I know this type of page may seem a little odd to you. But "My Ms. Millie" was at every Ladies MARCH MINGLE, whether she felt like it or not. She liked to go places, and she liked to be among her biological family and her church family. But, she always came to Ladies March Mingle just because I asked her to. She was always the First to register and pay, except for her last year, when she came in Second!
Ms Millie was so sick and in so much pain that she almost didn't come to Ladies MARCH MINGLE -2011. But for some reason, that neither of us understood, she just couldn't seem to stay away. I was really happy that she came...as I always was...but something just seemed a little different. I thought it was because Ladies MARCH MINGLE - 2011 was one of the BEST gatherings we had ever experienced!
Near the end of the program, she found me and said she was sorry, but she was really tired and in so much pain, she was going to slip out a little early. We hugged...as we always did. We said "I Love You!"...as we always did. And then she was gone! A few minutes later our cousin popped back in the door and said, "Millie forgot to give you something". She handed me an envelope...and then they were both gone! Ms. Millie nor I thought too much about it. But, now that she's REALLY gone, I realize that if she hadn't come...she would have missed her last Ladies MARCH MINGLE!
Four days after Ladies MARCH MINGLE -2011, our brother died in New York. All the siblings went there for the funeral. Ms. Millie had a really hard time walking and fell several times. But, she was determined to keep going!
We finally arrived back in Charlotte ...only by the grace of God and the kindness of my daughter, Rita. She and two of our younger sisters hovered over Ms. Millie and me like Mother Hens. Shortly after we return home, Ms Millie and I, both went into the hospital. I stayed several days, and came out sicker than when I went in. Ms Millie stayed, and stayed, and stayed. Unfortunately, infection from knee implants had riddled her body, and in late May...just two and a half months after Ladies MARCH MINGLE - 2011, My Ms. Millie was GONE again... But this time, never to return!
Ms Millie, many of us miss you! I always said to you, "If anyone loves me, I KNOW you do!" I feel sad that she's not here. But, I'm happy she's not in pain anymore... And she's probably up there in Heaven, right now, organizing her own Ladies MARCH MINGLE! We Love You, My Ms Millie, and Ladies MARCH MINGLE just won't EVER be the same without you...
